Does Money Bring Power: Why Rich People Have So Much Power

Money brings power, with wealth comes freedom and choices. The freedom to live where you want to live, the freedom to do what you want to do, and the freedom to become what you want to become.

Let us consider this question: If you could do better, should you?

In the time, allotted to labor, in the time given to economics, care for family, success, achievement, productivity, the development of skills, and creativity. If you could do better, should you?

I think that one of the greatest satisfaction of living life to the fullest is doing the best you can with whatever you have. Doing less than your best has ways of eroding the psyche. We seem to be creatures of the enterprise. Life says, here’s the raw material, what splendid things can you produce from all there is?

So, go for high productivity, the full employment of your genius, and the full development of your potential in all areas of your life, including earning money.

Truly sophisticated people know, it isn't the amount that counts, it's doing all that you can with all you've got that count.

Why does money have power?

Money has power because people have decided that it does. Since we have set up money as our standard to sell and buy things and we decided that having more of it gives us more options in life, we (the people) have decided that money is power.

Since we have set up money as our standard for buying things and we believe having more of it gives us more choices, the people of the world have decided that money is power.

Adam Smith

But there are some key reasons why money is so powerful, check out these examples:

1- Money gives us choices

We all love to have lots of options. We want the freedom to choose whatever we want, from what we eat, to where we live, to where we work and our lifestyle. Money can help you to have more options and to improve the quality of your life.

Money takes you from having just a few options to having many.

If you don’t have enough money, you will live in a neighborhood you don’t like only because you can’t afford a better neighborhood. You may go shopping at the cheapest places and work in a job that you don’t like.

When you are wealthy, you can live in the place you like, no matter how much it costs, you can choose to eat at home or at your favorite restaurant.

You can choose to work in the field that interests you the most and have the ability to be more creative and active. Having more money gives you more choices in life, which means you can live your life the way that you want.

2- We need money to survive

Money buys food, housing, clothing, education, and a lot of the things that you need to survive and thrive in this world.

Without money, we only live our lives asking the question: how to survive today? You can’t focus on anything else if you don’t have enough food, clothes, or a bed to sleep in. Money gives you the basic things you need in life, so you can focus on other things that are important, like your purpose in life, what goals you want to achieve, and how you can influence the people around you.

3- Money gives you confidence

Being wealthy can boost your confidence. While your confidence should come from who you are and how you conceive yourself, money can help you be more confident and believe in yourself. I remember a talk from my mentor when he was guiding me on how to become more confident, he said to me: the more you achieve in this life the more confident you become. When I was young, I was so shy and couldn’t talk to people, but with every success I achieved, I was happier, my self-esteem changed for the better, and I’ve become more confident.

Money can give you the success that boosts your confidence and bring you the respect of others.

4- Money gives you more opportunities

Being wealthy can give you more opportunities in life that you can’t have otherwise. You may have a ton of opportunities that can make your life easier and happier. Check out these examples:

  • Education: Extra cash may allow you to have a better education instead of taking whatever is available for a cheap price. You may choose the best college that aligns with your ideas, instead of going to the most affordable one. Money helps you to send your children to excellent schools. You can afford courses and books that help you be better in your life.
  • Career development: Money can help you be better at your career. Having the money to pay for courses and classes will help you build your experience faster, and may help you make more money in the future.
  • Talent development: If you want to be good at something, money can help you get there. You can hire instructors for various things like art, languages, and sports. You can improve your talents easier when you have more money.
  • Travel: Travel is one of the best experiences of life, but, unfortunately, it’s not free. So many people hope to travel the world but they can not afford it. If you have money, you can easily travel the world. You can pay for flights, accommodations, and activities that boost your traveling experience. Travel is truly a luxury, but it’s much easier when you have money.

5- Money gets things done

Money can get things done at a quicker pace. For example, if you want to purchase a rental property or invest in something, without extra cash, it could take years to make it happen. While if you have money, you can accomplish these things very quickly.

Money gets things done. If you want to replace your rough as soon as possible or you want to fix your car, you won’t face any problem doing that if you are wealthy.

6- Money can buy time

Having extra cash can help you make the most of your life, which means you have more time to focus on the things you enjoy. For example, you don’t need to trade time for money. This can give you the chance to spend more time with your beloved ones, and pursue your hobbies.

The rich don’t work for money, they make money work for them. The rich don’t work for people, they make people work for them.

Robert Kiyosaki

Without money, you may have to work at a job that trades your time for money and waste the opportunity to spend your time the way you want.

7- It determines your social class

As I said earlier, being wealthy means that you can decide where you live, what education you get, and other social class factors. Having more money can put you in a different social class.

This is why a wealthy man would have wealthy friends, and a poor man would rarely have wealthy friends because wealth attracts its like terms, and poverty as well attracts its own like terms.

But that doesn’t mean that you are locked down to your current social class if you don’t have money. In fact, wealthy people should help others and be open to giving them financial education when possible.

8- Respect

Money can also breed respect. People often respect the successful people that have accomplished something in their life. When you are wealthy, you are conceived as a successful person in the eyes of people and they will respect you more. The power and confidence that money brings would only make you gain people’s respect.

9- Satisfaction

Recent research has found that money can bring you happiness and satisfaction. People used to say money can’t buy you happiness, but the truth poverty is more related to negative emotions like stress, anxiety, and depression.

Research suggests that people derive greater satisfaction when they spend money on others than themselves. The research found that even as little as giving 1 dollar can make you feel happier and more satisfied.

10- Buy clothes

Wealthy people can buy more clothes. The one who is well dressed will look confident by default. Your self-confidence increases when you carry yourself well.

Dressing professionally contributes so much to your confidence because you feel more authoritative.

11- You can be healthier

Money can provide you with a healthier life. This includes doctor visits, medicine, exercise programs, and nutritious food. Your health can never be replaced once it’s gone. The money can help you in the diagnoses and treatment of diseases which means it gives you the ability to enhance your quality of life.

12- Can buy you peace of mind

Are you stressed and having trouble sleeping at night because you are worried about bills or your current job status? Having more money will vanish these worries and will give you better sleep at night.

13- The ability to give

Money can give you the ability to provide help to your family when they are in need. You can also contribute to your local community. Money can help you be more charitable and giving. This planet will become a good place to live in only when we provide help to those who need it, to give without limits. Only the givers have tested the real enjoyment of this life.

14- Privacy

Being wealthy can help you have some privacy. Most of the world lives on top of each other. Money allows you your own space. Today privacy is eaten away to where we forget the value and security it provides. Wealthy people can choose what is known about them and have the assets to protect themselves.

15- Money can give you independence

Money can give independence: for a young ambitious person to move away from a job he hates. For a single mother to be able to afford daycare for her kids and be more productive in life. For an old man to spend his remaining time with his grandchildren. For a depressed person to let go of any frustrating thing and live a more meaningful life.

Money may not guarantee you happiness, but it gives you the opportunity to chase it.

16- The ability to change people’s lives for the better

Wealthy people can change the life of others for the better. A successful entrepreneur can create job opportunities for thousands of unemployed. A multi-millionaire can change the lives of poor villages and provide them with food, water, and health. Rich people can provide education to poor children and give them the chance to live a good life.

The bottom line

Money is freedom. Freedom to make your own choices. To be independent and to have the opportunity to shape your life the way you want. By having more money you’re not only changing your life for the better, but you are also changing your family’s life and making them happier, and may also make the world around you a better place.
